Announcement bar

The announcement bar sits above the header on every page. It shows up to six short announcements, one at a time, each with an optional link. On desktops it can also show a fixed line of text on the left, and country and language selectors on the right.

When there's more than one announcement, shoppers get previous and next arrows. If Rotate announcements automatically is on, the bar changes every 3 to 10 seconds, and pauses while the pointer or keyboard focus is on it. Visitors who prefer reduced motion see no automatic rotation.

Best practices#

• One idea per announcement. "Free shipping on orders over $75" is easy to read in the few seconds it's on screen.
• Two or three announcements are plenty. With more, shoppers rarely see them all.
• Don't hide essential information in a rotation. Anything shoppers must see, like a shipping delay, belongs in the first announcement or on the page itself.
• Use the link label. A short link such as "Shop now" is clearer than linking the whole message.
• Match your real offer. If the announcement mentions free shipping, set the same amount under Theme settings → Cart → Free shipping progress so the cart agrees.

Preset tips#

• All three presets use Scheme 3, a dark scheme, so the bar stands apart from the header below it, with rotation on.
• The bar's text is small. If you edit Scheme 3, check that its text and accent colors still contrast strongly with the background.
